  • The notorious Lyda Southard (#3052) began serving a twelve year sentence in 1921 at age 29. After escaping in May 1931 and returning over one year later, friends in Boise gave her an Angora cat she named Patty to cheer her up while sick with influenza. An Idaho Statesman writer reported, "She has a great time fussing with that cat. 'Patty,' she calls it." According to the same article, referring to Lyda s "Idaho's notorious husband eradicator," the author wrote, "Lyda Southard likes cats. They make her feel better."
