  • The small Women's Ward building just outside the main entrance of the Idaho State Penitentiary housed most of the prison's 217 incarcerated women during its operation. Seven tiny double-occupancy cells open into a concrete dayroom. Built using convict labor with stone cut from the quarry a mile east of the site, the Women's Ward occupants sewed, read books, and made conversation to pass the time.
